Folktales of the Khasis Rafy 9781176379954 Books

"Folk-Tales of the Khasis" is a book of folk tales from the Khasis people of India. They are very good and make for a fun and interesting read.

I believe that the stories have been edited for a Western audience (generally appearing as oddly Christian themes, and references to 'The Great God'), so if you are looking for real authentic stories, you'd be better off looking elsewhere.

Because many of the stories deal with adult-themes, I wouldn't recommend reading it to children--though about half the stories should be fine, so you might just want to read over them first.

There is an active table of contents (though you have to go to the beginning of the book and page through to it). It is 1652 locations long.

Contains the following stories:

What Makes the Eclipse
The Legend of Mount Sophet Bneng
How the Peacock for his Beautiful Feathers
The Goddess who came to live with Mankind
The Formation of the Earth
U Raitong (The Khasi Orpheus)
The Tiger and the Monkeys
The Legend of the Iei Tree
Hunting the Stag Lapalang
The Goddesses Ka Ngot and Ka Iam

The formatting is defective. Every line is centered.
The author's style wasn't condescending or apologetic either. I'm not sure about accurate, but you can't have everything! Give it a try!
