After Shannon (my son) died in a tragic accident at the hands of a drunken driver, my mother suggested I keep a journal chronicling the lives of three children – Patrick (his son), and Eric and Tessie (who were his children by marriage but who he loved just as unconditionally).
The journal, which covers 1986 to 2003, represents a tremendously difficult period for three beautiful children who were mentally, physically and sexually abused. Sadly, these stories have become acutely and painfully all too familiar.
I hope the book help empowers all of us to be better parents and guardians for our children. How many children must suffer – or, at its most tragic consequences, die – from physical and emotional abuse because of our irrational legal system that upholds parental rights for those who unremorsefully flaunt their obligations otherwise? As representatives of this system (including judges, lawyers, mediators, arbitrators, case workers, etc.) do not have the benefit of a crystal ball to predict the behaviors of parents, they should always defer to ensuring the safety and well-being of children. There have been heartbreakingly countless cases and chronicles of events that clearly call for a reaffirmation of every child's fundamental right to be safe and to be heard without fear or retribution within the courts.
The time also has come for children to have sincere, committed advocates for their legal representation especially when their parents have acted in ways that unquestionably have compromised their safety and well-being. It is our collective prayers that there should be no ifs and buts on this issue. The courts have the power to stop parental abuse of millions of children. Expressions of regret are too late. Each day, I pray for the day when all children can live safely and happily in homes where the light of love is never darkened by the shadows of fear, violence, malice, and injustice.
We must view young people not as empty bottles to be filled, But as candles to be lit.

I could not stop reading once I started this book. There are some editing errors,a few names that popped up out of context to anyone and a few extra words rarely. Please don't let that stop you. It is at times unbelievable to think mother's can treat there children the way they do. Yes this book is written from one perspective but as you read it you sure don't need any convincing to realize the truth. I give kudos to author for speaking up as a grandparent as I am sure there are many more like her trying to be advocates for grandchildren in bad situations. It is upsetting to realize that child protective services does not often get the job done. Unfortunately, just because you can have a child doesn't mean you should raise one.Product details

Scars of Scared Silence edition by Diane Lee pseudonym Tiffany Triem Carol Ranney Les Roka Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
The author is a very strong, loving woman who has struggled to give some sense of normalcy and decency to the children depicted in this book. Highly recommended!
Very sad story. It was a very well written book. It makes you want to hold your children and grandchildren very very close. I have 7 very wonderful grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter and I thank God every day that they are well and happy.
The story of these children was a compelling one to read. It was agonizing
to see the horror they went through and no one would help the grandparents
to remove the children from the abuse. It makes one question our Justice
system.
